The asteroid is led towards us onto a so called Earth Close Approach trajectory. NASA predicts the asteroid will approach the Earth later today (Tuesday, May 14) at the day hours. NASA’s asteroid trackers at the California Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) have narrowed the fly-by down to 4.02pm BST (3.02pm UTC). When this happens, the asteroid will fly past Earth in breakneck speeds of 10.83km each second or 24,226.02mph.

Asteroid WARNING: 500KM space stone is simulated by Shock video

NASA considers an object this enormous has the potential to cause & ldquo damage into the impact area & rdquo; when it strikes on the planet.

A space rock at the upper end of NASA’s quote is about as tall like a huge Sequoia tree or nine London double-decker buses.

“roughly once per season, an strikes Earth’so atmosphere, creates an impressive fireball and burns up before reaching the top.

A considerably smaller sized asteroid measuring approximately 65.6feet (20m) across broke Russia’s Chelyabinsk Oblast in 2013, damaging more than 7,000 buildings and injuring more than 1,000 people who have shards of glass.

During its closest, NASA predicts Asteroid JO3 will approach the Earth from a distance of 0.04730 astronomical units (au).

Thankfully, there is absolutely no demand for NASA to sound the alarm bells just yet because the space rock will miss the planet.

This might seem like a lifetime away but in accordance with NASA, the strategy is negligible on the cosmic scale of spaces.

NASA said: “Near-Earth Objects can approach near Earth, As they orbit the Sun.

“Note that a ‘close’ passing astronomically may be very far away in human terms: millions or even tens of millions of kilometres. ”

Once the asteroid shoots out out Home World, NASA will not expect JO3 to approach the Earth again in later dates.
