A new 3D microscope, also called CX-A, can see the inner arrangement down cells into the organelles using a resolution of less than 200nm. The microscope works like an MRI system for cells, shooting images from all possible angles that may be pieced together into a 3D image. The cell is rectified with a rotating laser that produces a hologram image of the cell in a noninvasive way.

The microscope was unveiled by the Nanolive group and comes with software to convert the readings to 3D images with cell components shown in color.

This technology enables scientists to study cells during their life span. Cells can be discovered over periods of hours, days or weeks, so scientists can do experiments by introducing stimulation and seeing how cells react over time. The user leaves the system to run for so long as needed along with chooses images ought to be taken.

This could be utilized for research to”how biological processes work, how organelles interact and how mitochondria form complex networks,” the EPFL says.
