Apple on September 9, 2026 announced iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, in a Newsroom post that also framed the device as the thinnest iPhone when opened.
Hardware and design. Opened, Duo uses a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display that Apple says is 50 percent larger than iPhone 18 Pro Max. Closed, a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR offers about 90 percent of the screen area of iPhone 18 Pro in a passport-sized form. The enclosure is grade-5 titanium in star white and night sky, with a book-style hinge Apple describes as relieving bend stress.
Chip and thermals. Duo is powered by A20 Pro—the same chip Apple pairs with iPhone 18 Pro—and a custom vapor chamber for thermal management. Apple cites a 16-core Neural Engine with 2x compute for on-device AI, 50 percent more unified memory bandwidth, and a 2-nanometer process.
Software and AI. Duo ships with iOS 27.1 and Apple Intelligence / Siri AI features, with regional language availability noted in the Newsroom post.
Pricing and availability. In the U.S., iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB, with 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB options; Apple also lists 24-month financing. Pre-orders begin Friday, October 16, with availability Friday, October 23 in the first wave of markets, and October 30 in additional countries and regions. Accessory pricing includes an iPhone Duo Case at $79 and an iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand at $129.
