Google released Gemini 3.8 Flash and Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber on September 2, adding a general-purpose model for developers, enterprises and subscribers alongside a specialized cybersecurity model with restricted access.
Gemini 3.8 Flash is Google's third Flash release in six weeks. The company describes it as its most capable workhorse model, with gains over Gemini 3.7 Flash in software engineering, agentic tasks and multi-step reasoning. Ars Technica independently reported the launch and characterized the standard edition as a workhorse spanning software development and agentic tasks.
Google kept the introductory API price at the Gemini 3.7 Flash level: $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens. That introductory rate expires December 31, 2026; pricing rises on January 1, 2027 to $1.50 per million input tokens and $7.50 per million output tokens.
Developers can access Gemini 3.8 Flash through the Gemini API and Google AI Studio. Google also lists availability through Gemini Enterprise for organizations and through the Gemini app, AI Mode in Search and Gemini in Sheets for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber is a separate, security-focused variant built for vulnerability discovery and automated patching. It is not a general-public release. Google is providing prioritized access through its new Fairwind Program to trusted government authorities, critical-infrastructure operators and software maintainers. SiliconANGLE corroborated that the model is available through the early-access program and is aimed at vetted defenders.
The two variants share a technical foundation, but their release conditions differ sharply: the standard model is broadly available across Google's developer, enterprise and consumer channels, while the Cyber edition carries more permissive cybersecurity safeguards and therefore remains gated. Performance claims in Google's announcement are vendor-reported and should be assessed alongside independent testing as it becomes available.
